Hello!
Do you have any idea if the last name of "Jaffe" was a common name from that area? I wonder if there is a relative connection..........

Hi. I'm Hank Jaffe's daughter in law and we were doing some research for fun. He thinks the name of the town is actually Slupza in North Central Poland. Hank's email address is hejst3@verizon.net. Good luck!!!

My name is Susan and I am the granddaughter of Sam & Nettie (who died in the 1920's). My father, Herbert, was one of 8 children. Some of Herbert's siblings were George, Louis, Jack, Shirley, Irving, & Leah.

They lived in New York and I've heard that Sam & Nettie were from Lithuania or Russia - depending on who you talked to.

If you have any information on this family tree, I would love to hear about it. I'm brand new to this whole project. Thanks!

Hi, it's been a very long while since I have even looked at this site. Were you able to find out anything about Selig?

Thanks
Linda

Hi Linda,
I have not been able to find anything more on Selig. I returned from Poland two weeks ago having spent a few days wandering around Slupsk. It is a nice town of about 20,000 souls but is now judenfrei. When Selig left with Leo and Julius in 1903 (and, according to the ship's manifest, a girl named Marion) it was apparently 50% Jewish. Have you done any further research, e.g. the 1910 or 1920 census ?
Hank

I will try to access those censuses next week when I can budget in the subscription to ancestry. Until then I am going to do what I can on the non-payment records. My father gave me a copy of Leon's application for a SS card. I am also going to try and look for Ida since she is listed on the application as his mother. Do you have any idea what her maiden name was or anything about her?

Linda

Hi, My greatgrandparents were also Aaron and Gittel Jaffe originally from Shklov who settled in Brooklyn. All your other references to siblings are the same as mine. I am named after Aaron, my Grandfather was Joseph Jaffe who was a furrier. Love to hear from you, aborok2@comcast.net.

Jaffe from Russia to Chicago

I'm new to this search and would appreciate any help. My father was David Jaffe, son of Hillel and Malke (Molly. Hillel was born 1866. They came from Russia to Chicago. Children were (to the best of my knowledge) Mary, Clara, Joseph, Samuel, and David. My father married my mother, Gertrude Lopaty in Chicago 1931. Father passed away when I was very young - and had no contact with his family - so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Linda,
I spent a few days in Slupsk asking questions. No one heard of a Jewish cemetery so I spent hours searching the only cemetery in town...no results. Slupsk is a pretty town of 20,000 and is apparantl judenfrei.

Hi,
I'm interested in connecting with any relatives of Jacob Jaffe. He was born in Russia circa 1894 and died in New York City in 1938. He had 1 sister and 3 brothers, all much older than he was. His father's name was Hertz (sp?) Sister's name was Fanny (married to Morris Krasner), a brother Gershon (called Harry), brother Mendel (called either Max or Morris) and a brother named Joseph. And he had a cousin whose last name was Chayevitz (sp?)
His wife's name was Rebecca and his daughter Diana.
I'm the granddaughter and would love to be in touch with any relatives.

Hi all,
I am looking for anyone with a connection to Jaffe/Jaffa originally from Riga, Latvia but ended up in the Bethnal Green, England area.
I know around 1910 they changed from Jaffa to Jaffe and my great grandmother also changed her maiden name from Goldschmid to Goldsmith.

Paul F. Jaffe is my husband's grandfather. He ran a shoe store in Carthage, Missouri called Jaffe's Shoes. He and his wife Lillian Jaffe have both passed away.
